Speedrun FAQ
Everything you need to know before your first daily challenge.
What is speedrunning on Neurostim?
Doing the same challenge as everyone else, as fast or as well as you can: a sudoku grid, words to type, sums, a sequence to remember. Every quick game has its daily challenge and its leaderboard.
When does the daily challenge change?
At midnight, Paris time. The challenge is the same for everyone all day long; a run started just before midnight can still finish after it.
How many attempts do I get?
It depends on the challenge. When the game is known once played (a sudoku grid, a memory sequence), only your first attempt of the day is ranked. Elsewhere (the typing test, free runs), play again as often as you like and your best attempt of the day counts.
Who keeps the time?
The server: it records the start when the challenge appears and the end when your answer arrives. The time measured by your page is only kept when it agrees with the server's.
How do the weekly and monthly leaderboards work?
Every day, a challenge's top ten score 25, 18, 15, 12, 10, 8, 6, 4, 2 and 1 points, every other ranked player 1 point. The week, Monday to Sunday, and the month add these points up; ties are broken by the number of ranked days, then by the best rank.
What about cheating?
The server judges every attempt: it checks the grid, replays the keystrokes, recounts the answers. A score outside plausible limits is kept but never ranked. A one-attempt challenge started again in the same browser with another account isn't ranked either; an IP address alone never counts, since a family or an office shares one.
Do I need an account?
No. Hit “Play”: you get a guest nickname on your first game and you're ranked like members, marked “guest”. Create an account whenever you like: the same profile becomes yours and your results stay.
Can I play against my friends?
Yes: open a room and share the link. Everyone plays the same game at the same time, guests included, and the fastest wins. Members also have duels and tournaments.
On which device?
Everything runs in the browser, nothing to install, on a computer, tablet or phone. The typing test is best played with a real keyboard.
